The recent spell of dry weather has revealed a remarkable glimpse into the past at the National Trust's Lyveden in Northamptonshire. Parch marks, created when buried archaeological features affect how grass grows during prolonged dry conditions, have exposed the outline of the foundations of a long-lost staircase leading to the unfinished Elizabethan garden lodge.
